Test of English As A Foreign Language – TOEFL

 Toefl is an English Proficiency exam that is used by more than 150 Institutions in English Speaking countries to validate one’s skills in English Language as a foreigner.

The Test of English as a Foreign Language, otherwise known as TOEFL, is a standardized English language test that can be used to enroll in English-speaking universities, or for migration purposes. It tests your reading, listening, speaking and writing skills.  The toefl Result is valid for a period of two (2) years.  TOEFL is a computer base exam, it has four (4) parts; reading, listening, speaking and writing. The exam is conducted within four hours.

How is TOEFL Conducted?

The toefl exam will start with the reading component, followed immediately without break by the listening module. After the listening test, there will be a compulsory ten (10) minutes break. The speaking test comes after the ten minutes break and lastly the writing test. It is generally a 4 hours test

Kindly note: You may want to stay within the exam hall during the ten minutes break, take light refreshment or possibly water and just relax a little before the speaking test. This is the only break for the four hours computer-based test.

  Components / Parts of the TOEFL Test

As earlier mentioned, the toefl test has four (4) components as follows;

1. Reading,
2. Listening,
3. Speaking and
4. Writing,

Additionally, you will be provided with all the writing materials needed for the examination including materials for note -taking. You will be provided a headset, pen/pencil, scratch papers as so you are not expected to take any writing materials to the examination hall; in most cases such items will be addressed as exhibit.

How is the toefl Test Scored?

The TOEFL exam is graded over 120 marks, this is so because each component of the exam has a maximum mark of 30. The highest score of the toefl test is therefore 120 marks. But for your result to be valid, you are expected to pass each and all the components; reading, listening, speaking and writing. The average score of 18 is expected in each and all the modules.
